Abstract

1492822 Child-resistant closure and container OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 9 Jan 1975 [11 Jan 1974] 909/75 Heading B8T A flexible closure 10 has a pair of inwardly projecting locking lugs 22 and 24 of dissimilar configuration and a camming lug 26 of larger size than the locking lugs on the interior surface of a depending skirt 16, said locking lugs being contained within a separate semicircular space of the interior surface of the skirt from said camming lug, and a container 12 has a retaining rib 32 around its neck with a pair of slots 34 and 36 in the rib having dissimilar configurations for mating with the locking lugs 22 and 24 respectively, said lugs 22, 24 and 26 engaging the lower surface of the rib 32 upon application of the closure on the container such that removal of the closure is only possible when each locking lug is in alignment with its mating slot. The closure includes a removal tab 18 projecting outwardly from the skirt and of such a size that the tab can only be grasped to aid removal of the closure when in alignment with a notch 30 in an external container flange 28, in which position the locking lugs are in alignment with the slots. An arrow member protruding from the top portion 14 acts as an indicator for the removal tab 18.
