Abstract

1442433 A safety cap for sealing containers SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 30 Aug 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 40891/73 Heading B8T A resilient cap comprises a solid end-plate 1, a flared skirt 2 extending from it and being shaped to fit against the outer wall of the neck of a container, a semi spherical projection 10 or a cylindrical projection (11) Fig. 5 (not shown), extending from the end-plate 1, and a retaining band 3 integrally moulded with the end plate 1 via narrow webs 5 such that when the cap is placed over the opening of the container the band can be detached by breaking off the webs 5 and slid axially downwardly along the skirt until it is engaged within an annular recess 8 to press it against the neck of the container allowing either form of projection to frictionally engage a seal 12 of the container 9. The band may include a detachable section 32 which can be used as a grip to lift the band off the skirt.
