Abstract

1436683 Convenience can closure E G LA VISTA 12 June 1974 [9 July 1973] 26034/74 Heading B8T The circular aperture in a can lid 12 is sealed by a plug 20 which may be pressed into the can thereby breaking the seal in order to remove the contents. The plug 20 comprises a cap 21 integral with a flared annular skirt 22 which engages a corresponding skirt 18 in the rim surrounding the aperture, the rim being fashioned so as to bulge outwardly away from the can interior. Removal of the plug is effected by digital pressure on an elevated portion 25 of the cap 21, this resulting initially in a gradual release of the pressure within the can, and finally in the plug disengaging from the rim and descending to the bottom of the can. A non-toxic sealing compound may be placed on the mating surfaces of skirts 18, 22.
