Abstract

1490246 Containers K LOHWASSER 28 Jan 1975 [28 Jan 1974] 3608/75 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A nestable beaker-shaped container for yoghourt, jam etc. comprises a shoulder 3 formed between an upper portion 1a of cylindrical or other constant cross-sectional form and a lower portion 1b of upwardly-divergent form, the shoulder, or at least the lowermost portion or portions thereof, being spaced from the rim 4 by a distance of between 35% to 45% of the total container height and being adapted to seat on the rim of an identical container when nested therewith to maintain the printed outer surface of the upper portion la above the rim. This avoids smudging the printing and transfer of the printing inks to the inner surfaces of the nested containers. The containers, instead of being of circular cross-section as shown, may be of rectangular cross-section or of circular cross-section with a flattened side, Fig. 3 and 4 (not shown). The shoulder may be parallel to the rim as shown or extend in a sinusoidal or toothed manner around the container circumference. A step or a series of beads, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), may be provided below the shoulder to frictionally engage in the mouth of the adjacent container. Circumferential, axial, or inclined strengthening ribs may be provided on the lower container portion.
