Abstract

1485091 Rolling mills OFFICINE MECCANICHE DANIELI 22 Sept 1975 [25 Sept 1974] 38832/75 Heading B3M A tiltable rolling mill stand 53 is supported in a frame 27 which can be rotated through 90 degrees to allow the rolls 49, 50 of the stand to assume vertical or horizontal positions. The frame is supported by wheels in arcuate guides 47 and is movable by a ram 31. The frame carries reduction gearing 17 which is driven from a motor 10 and coupling 16 (when the rolls are horizontal), or from an alternative coupling 16<SP>1</SP> and shaft 25 (when the rolls have been moved to a vertical position). The motor 10 is axially shiftable by a ram 14 to engage or disengage the respective coupling. The stand is also adjustable, axially of the rolls, within the frame, and movable clear of the frame. To adjust the frame, a support 35 to which the stand is clamped is shifted by a ram 36. The stand is clamped in place by pistons 41, 42 which urge the frame upwardly against wedge surfaces 56, Fig. 4, of the support. When the pistons are released, the stand is shiftable by a further ram 37 clear of the frame 27, while supported on wheels 46. The wheels which guide the frame 27 in the arcuate guides 47 can be clamped in place by spring-loaded pistons (Fig. 6, not shown) which are releasable by fluid pressure.
