Abstract

1475453 X-ray film cassette E-Z-EM CO Inc 29 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974 20 Jan 1975] 3950/75 Heading G2X [Also in Division B8] A reusable envelope 10 for an x-ray cassette including an x-ray film 18 and an intensifier screen 20 comprises collapsible sheets 10a, 10b sealed along edges 12, 13, 14 and defining an open edge 16, the sheets having polished facing surfaces and the seals being beadless so that the facing surfaces lie flush against each other adjacent the seals, reinforcing strips 22, 23 along the edges of the sheets 10a, 10b at the open edge 16, and a valve 30 sealed to one of the sealed edges. In use of the envelope, which may be of vinyl or polyethylene, the film 18 and screen 20 are placed in a cardboard folder 21 and this is placed in the envelope 10 in a darkroom. The envelope is closed by a C-section clamp 25 e.g. of polystyrene, and is removed from the darkroom before the valve 30 is connected to a source of vacuum. When the envelope is evacuated the source of vacuum is removed. After exposure the clip 25 is removed and the film, screen and insert withdrawn, so that the envelope is ready for re-use. The edges of the envelope are preferably heat sealed under zero pressure so that no bead is formed at the seal.
