Abstract

1406248 Self-processing film units EASTMAN KODAK CO 7 Sept 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 41566/72 Heading G2X A self-processing film unit has means for providing a path or guide for a severing device to separate the image-recording portion from a reservoir of processing liquid. The film unit shown is of the type having a photo-sensitive imagereceiving sheet 11 and a cover or process sheet 13, the two sheets being permanently coupled together along the lateral marginal portions 15. The unit is coupled at one end to a rupturable container 23 containing a supply of processing fluid by means of sheets 33, 34, which are attached by adhesives 35, 36 to the container 23 and by adhesives 20a, 20b to sheets 11 and 13 respectively. Thus sheets 33, 34 also act as a funnel to guide the processing fluid from the container, when ruptured by a pair of rollers (30, 31), Fig.2 (not shown), between sheets 11 and 13. Similarly the unit is coupled at its other end to a trap portion 8 for receiving any excess processing fluid, with a similar funnel arrangement, also attached by adhesives to sheets 11, 13. Both the supply end and the trap end of the unit have an outer cover 27, 37 of relatively stiff cardboard. At the supply end, the edges 39, 41 of respective sheets 11, 13 and the opposed edges 43, 45 of cover 27 define an elongate slot 40 which can receive and guide a severing device for cutting the whole of the supply end away from sheets 11, 13. The inner surfaces of sheets 33 and 34 have adhesive coatings 67a and 67b which are activated by the passage of the processing fluid thereover, so that they are automatically sealed together after passage between the rollers. Thus after the supply end has been cut away, the portions on both sides of the cut remain sealed, and no leakage of fluid can take place. A similar sealing is effected at the trap end. Instead of cutting away the two ends, they may be, if preferred, simply folded over against the back of the final print.
