Abstract
1473218 Abrasive articles FEDERAL MOGUL CORP 23 April 1974 17758/74 Heading C4V The abrasive portion of an abrasive article comprises diamond particles coated with a second metal which is silver, copper, nickel, cobalt, iron, chromium, tungsten and alloys of these and embedded in a substantially non- porous matrix comprising a resinoid binder, a first powdered metal which is zinc, lead, cadmium, bismuth, tin, indium or alloys of these and the said second powdered metal, the metal-coated particles comprising up to 55% by weight of the matrix, the metal coating being at least substantially as heavy as the diamond particles which it coats and the first and second metals being present in the matrix in substantially equal amounts by weight and together constituting 80 to 90% by weight of the matrix the remainder being resinoid binder. The metal coating on the diamond particles may be the same as the second metal included in the matrix, the weight of the metal-coated diamonds may be about 42% of the weight of the matrix. In a preferred embodiment the first metal is tin and the second metal in the diamond coating and in the matrix is copper.
