Abstract

1428937 Abrasive particles DE BEERS INDUSTRIAL DIAMOND DIVISION Ltd 25 July 1974 [27 July 1973] 32963/74 Heading C4V Coated abrasives particles having a coating containing powder of size not exceeding 100 microns partially or wholly embedded therein. The abrasive particles may be of diamond or cupric boron nitride and the micron powder may be of the same material as that of the abrasive particles. The metal coating may comprise 30- 80% by weight of the coated particle and the metal may be nickel or copper. The coated particles may be made by surrounding a metalcoated abrasive particle with the micron powder and applying pressure to cause the powder to be pressed into the metal coating. This procedure may be effected in the capsule of the type used for synthetic diamond production, the pressure being applied to this capsule. A thin film of metal may be deposited on the coated abrasive particle after the powder has been pressed into the metal coating. The thin film may comprise up to 3% by weight of the coated particle.
