Abstract

1421823 Abrasive articles GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 22 March 1973 [10 May 1972] 14000/73 Heading C4V A metal bond matrix abrasive tool contains saw-type synthetic diamonds in the abrading surface, the diamonds having a coating of thickness 5-20 microns of copper, gold or silver or an alloy of two or more of these, and being positioned in cobalt-cemented tungsten carbide. The tools may be made by coating the diamonds with the above metal to a thickness of 5-20 microns, firing at elevated temperatures to remove entrained hydrogen, and positioning the coated diamonds in a cobalt-cemented tungsten carbide matrix and sintering at above 1000‹ C.
