856,047. Abrasive diamond tools. RUDORFF, D.W.A.F. Jan. 9, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1957 ; Nov. 20, 1957], Nos. 1013/57 and 36214/57. Drawings to Specification. Classes 60 and 124. Diamonds or diamond particles for use in diamond tools have their surfaces, or at least those parts of their surfaces in contact with bonding materials, artificially etched. The whole diamond may be immersed in molten potassium nitrate or the diamonds may be held in place on an auxiliary carrier by a layer applied thereto to the depth that the diamonds will protrude from the surface of the tool, the exposed surfaces may then be etched in molten potassium nitrate, the bonding material applied, and finally the auxiliary carrier and layer removed.
