Abstract

147,140. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. May 31, 1917, [Convention date]. Ordnance, built-up.-Relates to guns in which the barrel is fitted with a breech-piece having a jacket portion which surrounds the barrel, and consists in causing the internal wall of the jacket portion to pass into the base portion along a curve of large radius, and in providing filling- pieces between this base portion and the rear end of the barrel and its liner. In the form shown, the barrel A<1> has screwed upon it a breech-piece B having a jacket portion b<1> the junction b<6> between which and the base b<5> is curved to resist the formation of cracks. The base b<5> bears behind the barrel A<1> and liner A, the space between being filled by segmental pieces C. In a modification, the outer parts of the pieces C are formed by rearward extensions of the barrel A', and the remaining space is filled by ribs secured in undercut grooves in the base walls b<5>, and lying parallel to the front wall of the breechwedge hole b<3>.
