Abstract

1463495 Reciprocating pumps and motors NEWAGE ENGS Ltd 14 March 1974 [9 April 1973] 16895/73 Heading F1A In a radial piston pump or motor comprising a cylinder block B and a cam member A located outside, as shown, or inside the cylinder block, one being rotatable relative to the other, the pistons are biased into the cylinders by a resilient ring F comprising a strip with overlapped ends Fl, F2, so that when the cylinders are unpressurized the cam followers D on the pistons are withdrawn clear of the cam surface A1. The cam followers are cylindrical or barrel-shaped rollers engaging bearing shells G within the pistons, the bearing, shells and piston skirts H extending beyond 180 degrees to retain the rollers. Ring F is located in a groove P in the cylinder block, and engages the pistons of two adjacent banks of cylinders via respective rollers E, as shown, or pegs (72), Fig. 3 (not shown), fixed to the pistons. In a vehicle wheel motor, Figs. 3 to 5 (not shown), the cylinder block is stationary and the cam member rotates with the wheel hub and a rotary pintle valve within the cylinder block, guide rings (65, 67) veing provided to axially locate the cam follower rollers and a passage (58) through each piston supplying lubricant to the respective cam follower roller.
