Abstract
1460420 Phosphating metal surfaces PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 19 Nov 1975 [21 Nov 1974] 47584/75 Heading C7U A metal surface is (1) coated by contact with a phosphating solution containing 0.1-50 g/l in total of metal ions, phosphate ions, and 5-150 ml/l H 2 O 2 or 10-300 mg/l metal peroxide, the molar ratio total metal ion: phosphate ion being 0À9:1 to 2:1(2) rinsed with water, then (3) the rinsing water is separated into substantially pure water and a concentrate; the concentrate is added to the phosphating solution and the substantially pure water is recycled to the rinsing step. The metal may be Fe, steel, Zn or Al; the metal ions may be of Zn, Ca, Ni, Mn or Na; the metal peroxide may be Ni peroxide or MnO 2 , and the solution may contain H 2 SiF 6 or HBF 4 to give 0.1 - 10 g/l of F. Application is by spraying, immersion, or rollercoating; the separation of the rinsing water is by evaporation or reverse osmosis, and the process is applicable to a line process wherein the rinse water passes in counterflow to the workpieces.
