Abstract
1390957 Phosphating ferrous surfaces S CRAIG INVESTMENTS PTY Ltd 5 May 1972 [10 May 1971] 21147/72 Heading C7U Ferrous surfaces are phosphated using metal phosphate solutions successively e.g. Mn and then Zn, the cystals formed by the first solution being larger than those formed by the second. The surface may be first cleaned with a degreasing agent and then pickled in e.g. HCl or H 2 SO 4 . The manganese phosphate solution may contain free phosphoric acid, a nitrate, and free iron. A chromic acid rinse may be given between the phosphating steps. The final surface may be sealed with and/or a mixture of Al and graphite.
