1374315 Modifying metallic surfaces PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 18 Jan 1972 [23 Jan 1971] 2392/72 Heading C7U In a phosphating process, clean Fe or steel surfaces are sprayed with or immersed in an aqueous solution of lactic acid and a non-ionic surfactant having a pH from 4-5.5 and temperature below 60‹C. The surfactant is preferably a polyglycol ether. Subsequently, phosphating is carried out, with e.g. a Zn phosphate solution, followed, if desired, by the application of an organic coating.
