1413464 Phosphating iron or steel surfaces PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 27 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 28557/74 Heading C7U Iron or steel surfaces are dipped in a solution (50 to 80‹C) containing (g./l.) 4 to 20 Zn, 3 to 20 P 2 O 5 , 20 to 50 NO 3 , 0.001 to 0.5 Ni, 0.001 to 0.05 Cu, 0.1 to 2.0 F, 0.01 to 0.5 NO 2 , free to total P 2 O 5 0.30 to 0.65:1, a ratio by weight of Zn: P 2 O 5 : NO 3 of 1 to R.3.5:1:1.5 to 6.0 and is replenished by constituents in ratio Zn: P 2 O 5 : NO 3 : Ni: Cu: F of 0.4 to 0.8: 1: 0.4 to 0.9: 0.0001 to 0.05: 0.0005 to 0.003: 0.005 to 0.1 and free to total P 2 O 5 of 0.4 to 0.8:1. The solution may also contain chlorides, sulphates, alkali or ammonium ions, and tensides. A lubricant such as lime suspensions or soap or borax solutions may be subsequently applied.
