Abstract

1355739 Phosphating PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 8 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 36977/72 Heading C7U An aqueous metal treatment solution contains zinc phosphate, chlorate, and 0À1-2À7 mg/l V measured as V 2 O 5 . The V is added either as V 2 O 5 or NaVO 3 ; the solution may contain 1-10 g/l each of Zn and ClO 3 -, and may also contain nitrate, nitrite, Ni, Ca, and B compounds and simple or complex fluorides; the ratio P 2 O 5 : F may be 1 : 0À1 - 0À4. Application is by immersion or spraying to iron, steel, or non-ferrous metal such as Al, Zn, or Cd, e.g. for <150 seconds at 40-65‹C to give a coating weight 1À6-2À5 g/m<SP>2</SP>. The solution may be replenished during coating, 0À04 - 4 mg V per m<SP>2</SP> of treated surface being added.
