Abstract

1415999 Phosphating metal surfaces PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 23 May 1974 [29 May 1973 23 Aug 1973] 23028/74 Heading C7U Phosphate coatings on steel, Zn or Al are formed by contacting the surface with an aqueous solution containing (g./l.) 0.5 to 10 Zn, 1.5 to 13 P 2 O 5 , 0.1 to SF, either as F or SiF 6 , and 0.02 to 0.15 H 2 O 2 , the temperature being 20 to 75‹C and the ratio of free to total acid from 1:5 to 1:30. The bath may also contain Cu, Ni, SO 4 , NH4, NO 3 , Cl ions and other additives e.g. condensed phosphates, citric or tartaric acids, tensodes, polysaccharides, polyethers, polyalcohols, polyectrolytes, polyamides or polycarboxylic acids. The ratio of Zn to P 2 O 5 ions in a replenishing solution is disclosed. A replenishment solution may also contain ZnO, ZnCO 3 , ZnF 2 , Zn, NiO, NiCO 3 , Na 2 CO 3 , NaHCO 3 , NaHPO 4 , Na 3 PO 4 , NaF or NaOH. The H202 may be introduced as H 2 O 2 , zinc peroxide, sodium carbonate, peroxohydrate or sodium phosphate peroxohydrate.
