Abstract

1458766 Developing apparatus XEROX CORP 13 Feb 1974 [15 Feb 1973 (2) 10 Jan 1974] 6512/74 Heading G2H In an apparatus of the kind in which a donor member carrying a uniform layer of electroscopic developing particles is spaced by a small gap from a latent electrostatic image bearing member to be developed, a pulsed bias of substantially rectangular wave form is applied across said gap, each pulse comprising an activation potential segment in which the electroscopic particles are released from the donor member and a development potential segment of different polarity or zero potential in which the electroscopic particles in non-image areas are attracted towards the donor member thereby preventing particle deposition in the non-image areas. Suitably each activation segment lasts for 30 to 70 microseconds and each development segment lasts for 100 to 180 microseconds, and the pulse repetition rate is from 4 to 8 kilo-Hertz.
