Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain visible images excelling in gradient by enhancing the reproducibility of picture image, by applying alternating field to the developing gap between the toner carrier and electrostatic image holder from outside, and enlarging the distance of said gap.
CONSTITUTION: An electrostatic image holder 11 and a toner carrier 12 are held at a gap of 100 to 500μ in the initial period in the developing section, and AC voltage of frequency f ≤1,000Hz is applied in the space between the toner carrier 12 and a back electrode 18 of the electrostatic image holder 11 from a power source 16, which causes the toner particles to move reciprocally in the non-picture image part between the electrostatic holder 11 and the toner carrier, A motor 14 is controlled by a timing circuit 17, and after lapse of 0.2sec, the electrostatic image holder 11 is spaced from the toner carrier 12, and the toner particles are moved in one direction from the toner carrier 12 to the picture image part of the electrostatic image holder 11, and from the non-picture image part to the toner carrier 12 in one way.
