Abstract

1,017,681. Electrophotographic developers. RANK XEROX Ltd. 12, Jun. 1962 [June 12, 1961], No. 19048/62. Heading G2H. A xerographic developer composition comprises a single species of divided toner particles and two different species of substantially larger carrier particles the toner being electrostatically adherent upon and positively charged by one of the carriers and electrostatically adherent upon and negatively charged by the other carrier. The developer composition may be formed by mixing Xerox (Registered Trade mark) Type 10 developer with Xerox reversal developer Type 10 which both include a common toner material but different carriers to produce opposite polarities. Alternatively, a mixture of Copyflo (Registered Trade Mark) P1 and Copyflo N1 developers may be used The composition can be applied at a single development step, such that negatively charged particles deposit in the areas indicated in Fig. 2B and the positively charged particles deposit in the areas indicated in Fig. 2C on a plate 10 carrying a halftone charge pattern. The use of such a composition for producing half-tone images is described in Specification 1,017,682. The developed image formed with the composition provides a development of solid areas uniform in visual appearance yet consisting of image areas of positively and negatively charged toner particles. A half-tone charge pattern may be applied to plate 10 in the manner described in Specification 1017683.
