Abstract

145,841. Etheridge, H., and Bar-Lock Typewriter Co. March 27, 1919, Paper-carriages.-A detachable carriage-holder is supported at the back by an open jaw on the holder engaging a stud on the framework, or vice versa., the stud being parallel to the axis of the platen, and is supported at the front by means which permit the holder to be detached by being turned upwards, about the axis of the stud, and then drawn off the stud. The supporting-means may be arranged to permit of adjustment of the platen with reference to the printing-line. As shown, the holder D is formed at each end with an arm E, provided with open jaws E<1>, E<2> for engaging studs B, B<1>, which are mounted in lugs A<1>, A<2> on the framework A. The holder may carry pivoted catches F for engaging the studs B<1>. The studs B are formed with reduced shanks which are threaded into the lugs A<1>. The studs B<1> are formed with reduced shanks B<2> which pass through enlarged holes in the lugs A<2> and are threaded to receive securing-nuts B<3>, the arrangement enabling the holder to be adjusted in the vertical and fore-and-aft directions. The arrangement of the studs B below the level of the platen prevents the ribbon arms from fouling the platen carriage C when the holder is turned upwards or downwards. The platen carriage overhangs the holder and is formed at the back with a jaw, balls D' being arranged in races formed in the holder and the jaw.
