Paper - supports ; platen-scales. - The platen roller is detachably mounted in the end plates or risers of the platen frame, and is held against vertical or longitudinal play by means of the supports of the platen scale. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the risers 11 of the platen frame 10 are formed with open slots 18 leading to bearing-openings 14 for the shaft 16 of the platen-roller, and the shaft is formed with necks 19 which are at the same distance apart as the end plates. In mounting the platen-roller, the necks are passed through the slots, and the shaft is then moved longitudinally. the operations being performed in the reverse order to remove the platen-roller. The shaft is prevented from moving longitudinally or vertically by the right-hand neck 19 engaging one of the pivoted arms 20 that carry the platen scale 23. The arms and the scale are prevented from vibrat. ing by a pivoted hook 24 which engages a pin 27 on the right-hand arm 20. Sheet feeding and guiding arrangements.-The platen roller may be associated with the paper feeding and guiding device described in Specification 141,326. The device comprises a paperapron 30, pivoted on a rod 31 on the frame 10 and urged towards the platen-roller 17 by a spring 41. The apron carries a feed-roller 36 which projects through a slot 34 at the bottom, the shaft 37 of the feed-roller being mounted in a yoke 38 which is pivoted at the middle on a pin 40, carried by a flange 35 on the apron. The apron is formed with an extension 32 for receiving the hand.
