Abstract

1451163 Rotary printing machines; inking and dampening MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 11 Jan 1974 [18 Jan 1973] 01515/74 Heading B6C A rotary printing machine is provided with an inking system which includes an ink reservoir 16; at least three distributer rollers 8, 9, 12, roller 9 being surfaced with copper; two discrete roller trains each containing at least one forme roller 5, 6, 7; the train containing the coppersurfaced distributer roller 9 also having an intermediate roller which can be tripped out of contact with preceding distributer roller 12; and a dampening system, e.g. a spray damper 18 associated with roller 9. For offset printing, roller 11 can be tripped, and dampening liquid applied to roller 9 to effectively provide separate damping and inking systems; alternatively, the roller 11 can be engaged and both ink and dampening liquid applied via forme roller 7. The machine is convertible to letterpress with damping spray 18 inoperative and ink applied via all the forme rollers. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) only two forme rollers (21), (22) are used, together with two distributer rollers (23, 24), so that the inking and dampening processes may occur in reverse order.
