Abstract
1449273 Solution treating segregated cast alloys GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 25 July 1973 35422/73 Heading C7A Cast alloys containing segregated low-melting phases are solution treated by heating them initially to a temperature below the incipient melting temperature of the lowest melting point phase for a time sufficient to at least partially dissolve that phase in the matrix whereby the incipient melting temperature of the body is increased. The temperature is then progressively raised to continue dissolution of the low-melting phases while keeping it below the incipient melting temperature, until all of those phases have been dissolved. The casting is then cooled to ambient temperature. The treatment is applied particularly to alloys containing in percentage by wt:- Cr 8 - 15 Co 8 - 15 Ti 3.3 - 6 Al 2 - 5À5 W 0-7 Zr 0 - 0À1 Mo 2 - 5 B 0À005 - 0À03 Si 0 - 0À5 C 0À05 - 0À35 Mn 0 - 0À5 Fe 0 - 1 V 0-1 Ta 0 - 4À4 Nb 0 - 2 Hf 0 - 2 Ni balance In one preferred composition of restricted range Ti + Al is 7À5-9% and Mo + W/ 2 is 5-7%, with the Ti:Al weight ratio being greater than 1:1 but less than 3:1, while in another Al + Ti is at least 8À1%, Al + Ti + Ta + Nb is 11À7-12À5%, Ta + Nb is 3À6-4À4% and Mo + W is at least 8À5%.
