Abstract

1442632 Power turbine plant ACRES CONSULTING SERVICE Ltd 30 Jan 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 6843/73 Headings F1G and F1Q A gas turbine plant including a gas turbine 11, a combustion chamber 14 and a compressed-air fuel gasifier 15 drawing air continuously from an underground reservoir 21, is utilized in an electrical power generating plant operating under two alternative modes: (a) a generating mode in which the turbine drives a generator 10; (b) a storage mode in which the turbine is connected by a clutch 25 to a compressor 24 to feed air to the reservoir. As shown, the combustion chamber 14 forms part of a steam generator for a steam turbine 13 driving an auxiliary generator 12 which, during the storage mode, provides power for generator 10 acting as a motor to assist the turbine 11 driving the compressor. Again, the combustion products may pass directly to the turbine, and the turbine exhaust be used in a steam generator. The fuel-gasifier 15 is a coal gasifier plant, or may be a compressed-air synthetic gas production plant.
