1298434 Steam turbine plant J J KELMAR 21 May 1971 16171/71 Heading F1Q [Also in Division F4] A substantially constant output electric power plant comprises a gas producer 7, means 57 for delivering oxygen to the producer to gasify coal therein at a substantially constant rate to produce fuel, a boiler furnace 5, means for delivering oxygen 16, 17, 18 and the fuel 9 to the furnace for burning therein to produce steam and to form products of combustion that include water vapour and CO 2 , means 27 for condensing the water vapour and separating it from the CO 2 , a steam turbine 2, means 3 for conducting the steam to the turbine at a rate to enable it to operate the plant at substantially full capacity continuously, an electric generator 1 driven by the turbine, means 37, 38 operated by surplus power from the plant only during periods of reduced load for liquefying some of the separated CO 2 , air separation apparatus 45, 54 operated by some of the surplus power during the periods of reduced load, means 44 for conducting liquefied CO 2 to the apparatus while it is operating to aid in producing liquid oxygen in excess of the oxygen requirements of the gas producer, means 56 for storing the surplus liquid oxygen for use in the plant between periods of reduced load when the air separation apparatus is not operating and means for warming the liquid oxygen to gasify it before it is used.
