Abstract

PURPOSE:To supply electric power through generator operation of the rotary electrical equipment installed in a turbocharger even during stoppage of an internal combustion engine by driving a turbine with combustion gas out of a combustor igniting fuel independently of the engine. CONSTITUTION:During operation of an internal combustion engine, an intake valve 1c is opened but a combustion air valve 4f and a combustion gas valve 4g are closed. A turbine blade 2a of a turbocharger 2 is rotated and driven by energy of exhaust a gas out of an exhaust pipe 1b, making rotary electrical equipment 3 perform its generator operation, and the generated power is converted into desired electric power and it is fed to a current consumer 7. When power supply to this current consumer 7 at the time of stoppage of the engine 1 is required, both combustion air and gas passages of a combustion 4 are opened, and if fuel is ignited in the combustor 4 and the turbocharger 2 is driven by this combustion gas, the generated power is secured by a generating action of the rotary electrical equipment 3.
