Abstract

1435456 Dry shavers SCHICK Inc 18 June 1974 [20 June 1973] 27060/74 Heading B4B [Also in Division F2] Apparatus e.g.: an electric shaver, comprises a motor 30, a reciprocally driven working member e.g. a cutter 21 wherein the drive arrangement comprises a slidably-mounted actuator 24 mechanically coupled to the working member and having an elongated recess 31 in which an eccentric drive cam 27 is operatively engaged for reciprocally driving the actuator member, and compensating means comprising at least one relief recess 52 in the actuator member adjacent the drive recess for rendering side walls 49, 50 of the drive recess flexible to compensate for any size variations in the drive recess. The actuator member, of plastics material, is provided with runners 40, 41 adapted to slide in channels 25, 26 formed in the housing 11 of the shaver and with a bore into which a stem 22, releasably connected to the cutter, is press fitted. The internal dimension between the walls 49, 50 of the drive recess is less than the diameter of the cam 27, thereby ensuring that the walls resiliently engage the cam; the degree of resilience is determined by the thickness of the walls and depth of the recess. As shown in Figs. 3 and 5 a pair of relief recesses 52, 53 are provided which may be elongated as shown in Fig. 5 or D- shaped in plan. The actuator is provided with an arm 48 for actuating a long-hair trimmer (45, 46) Fig. 4 (not shown); the timmer may be moved to an operative position by means of a push-button (19).
