1410752 Dry shavers SPERRY RAND CORP 4 March 1974 [24 May 1973] 9579/74 Heading B4B A cutter head 16 for a dry shaver 10 comprises an outer cutter 17 having a hair-shearing first wall 18 and non-hair-shearing second and third walls 20, an inner cutter 50 having a wall 51 for shearing engagement with the first wall and a member 30 located adjacent the second wall 20 and provided with resilient means 82 adapted to pass through an aperture 80 in the second wall thereby engaging the inner cutter so as to urge it against the third wall, thus guiding the inner cutter in its direction of shearing movement. As shown in Fig. 2, three identical cutter assemblies are mounted on a common mounting frame 40. Each outer cutter 17 is provided with a base member 21 formed with a slot 29 through which an actuating spring 63 passes; the spring is connected to a drive arm 72 of a motor 70 and to the inner cutter 50, the spring also urging the walls 18, 51 into shearing contact. The three cutter assemblies are connected to the frame by clips 49, Fig. 3. The resilient means 82 is in the form of a resilient arm 83A having a protrusion 85 which extends through the aperture 80 and engages the inner cutter. As shown, four such arms are formed integrally with a spacer member 30 and are arranged to co-operate with the inner cutters of adjacent cutter assemblies as shown in Fig. 2. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, the bottom wall 53 of the inner cutter is dispensed with and the spring 63 is connected to the walls 57 which are extended for this purpose. In this embodiment the resilient arms 83A urge one of the walls 57 against a wall 25 on the outer cutter in order to guide the inner cutter. The invention may be applied to rotary inner cutters.
