Abstract

1432611 Piecing up: end gathering ZINSER TEXTILMASCHINEN GmbH 6 April 1973 16748/73 Heading DID A broken thread end is separated and gathered from a bobbin surface using a centrifugal force, arising from the reverse rotation of the bobbin, and a suction force. The centrifugal force may be alone sufficient to separate the end, and the bobbin may be reverse rotated at at least 1500 r.p.m. As shown, Fig. 1, driven roller 27 is pressed against Whorl 12 by advancing carriage 29 to reverse-rotate bobbin 16, the belt 11 slipping on the whorl. When the thread end has been thrown from the bobbin, and sucked into cranked, slotted tube 22, the exposed thread portion 33 is detected by probe 34, cut by cutter 35 and pieced up. Carriage 29 is then retracted, and the bobbin is braked and then rotated in the normal direction by belt 11. To allow piecing up, roller 27 may be braked to a halt to halt the bobbin, the belt slipping on the whorl. Roller 27 has a resilient tyre of rubber or synthetic plastics material. A shorter tube inlet 26 may be traversed along bobbin end 19. When the whorl is contacted by roller 27, the belt may be lifted from the whorl by a carriage supported roller or slide, or by an air jet from a nozzle advanced with the carriage and supplied from suction source 24. Alternatively, Fig. 4, roller 41 is advanced to lift belt 11 and to drive Whorl 12 from the belt. Geared rollers may be used between whop 12 and roller 41 to reduce the spindle speed. The carrier, the tube, a piecing-up device and a thread end detector are carried on carriage 21 patrolling the ring spinning machine.
