1428472 Ventilating caravans P KREIS 13 March 1973 [14 March 1972] 12150/73 Heading F4V A caravan includes a bench 4 which can support a mattress or cushion (6, Fig. 1) to form part of a bed, and a ventilating and heating or cooling system comprising an air supply duct (16) beneath the bench 4 having an upwardly extending portion 15 which is connected to an upwardly extending shaft by way of an opening in the bench, the shaft being located at a wall of the caravan and having an air outlet slightly below the upper surface of the mattress or cushion (6) when laid on the bench 4. In the form shown, the duct end portion 15 is flexible and is suspended by a flange 34 in the opening in the bench 4. A cap 25 covers the opening and forms a chamber communicating via an opening 24 with the upwardly extending shaft 11 which is defined by an angle plate 20 and walls 1, 2 at a corner of the caravan. The plate 20 and cap 25 are made of plastics material. The rate of air flow through opening 24 may be controlled by a plastics slide 36 having a handle 38 which projects above the mattress or cushion (6) and which may carry locking means to hold the slide in an adjusted position. The shaft 11 may be replaced by one or more rectangular sectioned shafts, each of which may be independent of the caravan walls 1, 2. In an alternative embodiment, the shaft may be connected directly to the upwardly extending duct portion 15. The shaft may be formed as a flattened nozzle. The air supply duet (16) has branch ducts (17) serving floor outlets (18).
