Abstract
1427298 Inlet and outlet seals for pressure vessels ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 12 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 26035/74 Heading D1L The inlet and outlet of a pressurized heat treatment vessel 2, through which a fibrous material 7 passes, are sealed at B by pressurized fluid directed onto the material through nozzles A, A' from a pair of chambers 4 between which the material passes, one of chambers being slidable perpendicular to the material so that the gap between the chambers can be altered to accommodate joins or variations in thickness of the material, the sealing fluid being forced into overflow chambers 6 by the pressure of the treatment fluid in vessel 2. The nozzles A, A' can be at an angle of 30-90 with the material. The sealing fluid e.g. water, is introduced into chambers 4 from conduits 13, 13'. The gap c between the movable chamber 4 and the supporting members of the shell 22 is non-linear and may be sealed using O- rings or piston rings (25) [Fig. 5 (not shown)]. Pressurized water or air may also be introduced via pipes (27), Fig. 14 (not shown), against the side of the chambers 4 to increase the sealing effect. Various shapes of the chambers 4 are illustrated in cross-section in Figs. 9-13 (not shown). The position of the movable chamber may be controlled by an air cylinder 5, or a spring bearing on the outer surface of the chamber. Sealing fluid entrained on the material may be removed by passage over rods (28) or plates (29), [Figs. 16 and 17 (not shown)].
