[Also in Division D1] A device for the pressure-tight conveying through of web or strand material into or out of closed containers filled with gases or liquids, the pressure of which differs from the pressure of the air surrounding the container, or through a unilaterally open liquid-filled trough, is characterized in that two or more sealing strips 5 which act against each other under pressure are covered with a sliding foil 7 having good sliding properties relative to the material passing through. In the arrangement shown, processing container 1 is formed with an aperture 2 over which is a retaining device 3 housing sealing strips 5 which consist of a foam plastic core covered by sliding foil 7. One strip 5 may be acted upon by a continuous flat section 12 actuated by mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic means such as the pressure chamber 9 shown. The strips 5 may alternatively be arranged inside the container 1 and acted upon by the pressure in the chamber with or without additional spring or other pressing means. In other embodiments the sealing strips are purely pneumatic being in the form of sealing diaphragms covered with sliding foil and acted upon by pressure either from inside the container or from separate means. In the latter case a pressure reducing device may be incorporated and arranged so that the pressure on the sealing strips is always above the pressure in the container 1. Instead of pneumatic pressure, hydraulic pressure may be used, the liquid in this instance may also be used as a coolant. Additionally such liquid may be used for the absorption of any gases which escape from the pressure chamber and a trough containing the liquid may be provided over the inlet and/or outlet for this purpose. In a further embodiment a multiplicity of pairs of sealing diaphragms in the form of flexible pressure tubes disposed in grooves and covered with a common sliding foil, are used. With this arrangement the pressure in the respective tubes can be varied from the inside to the outside of the device.
