Abstract

1,168,084. Continuous casting. SWEDLOW Inc. 20 Sept., 1966 [28 Sept., 1965], No. 42039/66. Heading B5A. A continuous polymeric sheet, of e.g. an acrylic resin, is cast between moving surfaces, the path of which is inclined to the horizontal at such an angle that the hydrostatic pressure of the working material is sufficient to keep the surfaces separated to the required extent. The inclined path may be straight, angled or may follow the " natural curvature " of the surface as is disclosed in Specification 1,168,083. In the embodiment illustrated in the Figure, the material is cast between two variable-tension endless steel belts 50 and 51 the co-operating runs of which are inclined in a straight line to the horizontal and converge slightly so as to accommodate the shrinkage of the working material which occurs on curing. The cast material is first heated to cure it by flooding the belt with hot water from pipes 65, 66 and 68 and then heated to post cure it by hot air blowers 80. Alternatively, curing may be effected by spraying the belts with hot water.
