Abstract
1,168,083. Sheet casting. SWEDLOW Inc. 20 Sept., 1966 [28 Sept., 1965], No. 42038/66. Heading B5A. A polymeric sheet is cast between two inclined continuous heated belts, the cooperating runs of which move along on path defined by the natural sag of the belts. The angle of inclination is such that the hydrostatic pressure developed by the working material is sufficient to maintain the belts in the desired spaced relationship. In the embodiment shown in the Figure, the material, e.g. an acrylic resin, is cast between endless steel belts 11 and 12, the belt first passing through a curing zone 29, in which hot water is sprayed on to the belts, and then through a post curing zone 30 heated by electrical or gas burning means. In the curing zone the belts follow their natural curvature and are inclined whilst in the post curing zone the belts move horizontally. Rollers (see Figs. 3 and 5, not shown) are provided in each zone to guide the belts, the upper belt being tensioned against the upper set of rollers, the lower belt being allowed to droop on to the lower set of rollers, and the sets of rollers gradually converging to accommodate the shrinkage of the working material which occurs upon curing.
