Abstract

142,626. Newland, C. L. April 3, 1919. Tools; tool-holders; turrets.-Turret tool-holders for use in lathe and like tool posts are fitted with two sets of tools and have special details. The tool-holder is clamped by its shank 1, which is formed with an eye 2 to receive the turret clamped by a screw 3 and retained by a set-screw 18 engaging a peripheral groove. Radial peripheral holes 7 receive external-turning tools 8, and holes 10 in the face and parallel to the axis accommodate internal-turning tools 11. The clamping- screws 9, 12 are interchangeable, so that only one size of spanner is required. The tool-holder may be used with the turret either vertical as shown, or horizontal; in the latter case, the tools 8 are rotated 90 degrees in their holes 7. The central hole of the turret may receive a stud threaded to carry an ordinary tool chuck. Indexing is effected by ratchet teeth 13 and a spring pawl 14 adjustable by a screw 16 to vary the height of the cutting-edges of the tools. The tools may be modified from the forms shown.
