Phase, changing; polyphase transformers.-A polyphase transformer for converting three-phase current into two-phase current, or vice versa, comprises delta or star connected three-phase windings a, b, c interlinked on the same cores with three star-connected windings d, e, f, two of which are similar, while the third is a fraction, preferably about 36.6 per cent of either, the two similar windings being on two similar limbs i, j of the transformer core and the fractional winding on a limb h having a smaller cross-sectional area. The third winding may consist of two distinct coils as shown in Fig. 4, when two-phase four-wire supply is desired. Auto-transformer coils, with only one winding on each limb, may be used.
