Abstract
630,761. Changing number of phases. SINGH, W. K. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21552. [Class 38 (ii)] A transformer for single to two-phase conversion comprises a laminated iron core defining two fluxpaths with a common limb carrying the single-phase winding 14 and two other limbs 17, 18 carrying the two-phase windings 15, 16 respectively, phase-controlling windings 19, 20 of different electrical constants and connected in series to form a closed circuit, being wound on limbs 17, 18 respectively to displace the phases of the fluxes in those limbs. One of the windings 19, 20 which may have different numbers of turns, may be connected so that its current produces flux aiding the main flux. The phase displacement may be enhanced by the loads supplied by output windings 15, 16 being of different resistance, and the reactances of those windings being different.
