Abstract
1401642 Developing electrostatic latent images AUSTRALIA DEPARTMENT OF Mfg INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF 26 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 44501/72 Heading G2H An electro-photographic latent image, or a dielectric pattern image produced thermally or by pressure, is developed by two successive components of a preferably liquid developer, and the components are so chosen that as the polarity of a developing electrode changes first one component is selectively deposited on the image, then the other component is deposited on those parts of the image area which did not receive the first component. The first component acts as a mask during the second part of the development, and may be a colourless or opaque white resin, mingled with more-conductive toner particles in an insulating liquid. During the first stage of development an electrostatic bias holds the conductive toner particles away from the latent image, then reversal of the bias forces the toner particles on to the image.
