Abstract
1400888 Feeders for foundry moulds AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc 6 Oct 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 46313/72 Heading B3F A feeder lining 20 is formed in the feeder hole 18 of a graphite wheel-casting mould 10 by heating the mould 10 so that its top surface 12 is at a lower temperature (e.g. 195 ‹ C.) than its lower surface 14 (e.g. at 240‹ C.), blocking of the hole 18 with a heating member 26 and supplying a thermosetting resin/sand mix to the hole. After a set period of time, the sand mix which has not set is dumped from the hole 18 leaving a lining 20 of greater thickness towards the hole base than its top. Preferably the member 26 is first covered with a fine sand/resin facing mix and a coarser mix applied to the top of the facing mix. The member 26 is removed and a depression 30 in the lining 20 knocked out to form a sprue connecting the cavity 16 of the mould with the feeder.
