Abstract

1523452 Moulding mould parts UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORP 21 Aug 1975 [21 Aug 1974] 34754/75 Heading B5A [Also in Division B3] Opposed ceramic mould sides 10, 12, Fig. 2, having edge flanges 20, 22, 24, 26 with mating surfaces, are held together by a ring 32 of ceramic material with inner surface parts conforming to and engaging the flange outer surfaces. The ring 32 may be slidable into position over the mould and possibly cemented or may be cast in place in a ring mould around the the mould. In the latter case there may be more than one ring and clamping of the sides may be enhanced by using a different ceramic for the ring. A slidable ring may be formed with a pouring cup and used on the mould end or a ring of such form, Fig. 8, may be produced by using a wax pattern 89 and employing a slurry dip and drying process. One or two end rings, without cups, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), may be produced by this latter process, including coating with granular ceramic between dips. The rings are hardened by heating of the moulds and rings. Cardboard closes the mould ends against slurry entry. The mould is similar to that described in Specification 1,471,963.
