Abstract

1455720 Coating moulds AKITA KK 28 Dec 1973 [11 Jan 1973] 60095/73 Heading B3F After applying a coating to the casting surface of a sand mould, the pressure within the mass of sand is reduced to below atmospheric to cause the material of the coating to penetrate the surface and form a protective layer. A mould part may be formed by introducing moist sand into a mould box 2 provided with a pattern 1 and vibrating the box 2. An evacuation box 4 having an air-permeable wall 6 covered by a filter 5 is then placed on top of the box 2, the box 2 inverted and the pattern 1 removed. A quickdrying paint is then sprayed on to the exposed surface (9) of the mould part and suction applied to the box 4. Two such mould parts may be assembled to form a complete mould, Fig. 4 (not shown), the boxes 4 remaining in position and having suction applied thereto during casting of the molten metal.
