Abstract

138,988. Stuart, J. Feb. 13, 1919. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and rubber-ring cushions.-The inner rim 4, Fig. 10, of a spring wheel carries a metal ring 7 on which are mounted abutments 8 of less width than the inner rim, the ends of which are undercut at 9. The rubber or like cushions 18, Fig. 6, with inner and outer curved surfaces 19, 21, are provided with dovetailed surfaces 22 to correspond with the undercut sides of the abutments 8, and with integral projections 26 to correspond with pockets 17 in the outer rim 12. Reduced portions 24 overlap the abutments. In a modification, Fig. 9, the portions 24 are dispensed with. The cushions 18 are of such size that they are under circumferential compression between the abutments. A side plate 32 carries an annular flange to prevent lateral displacement of the cushions.
