Abstract

1387181 Moulding railway sleepers DOWMAC CONCRETE Ltd 8 May 1973 [5 April 1972] 15585/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] The boss 9 (Fig. 2) of a rail clip fastening spike 3 is positioned in a recess 2 of a mould base, and clamped against a compressible lining 4 by a pin 5 (Fig. 1) engaging apertures in the mould and through the boss. Each mould includes two recesses 2, lined with corrugated paper 4 and having a pocket 8 (Fig. 2) for further locating the boss 9. Moulds are placed end-toend, prestressed steel wires are passed through the moulds, and concrete is cast and vibrated to form inverted railway sleepers. The boss 9 of each spike projects from the upper surface of the moulded sleeper, and receives a rail fastening clip.
