Abstract

874,161. Railway sleepers. GOLDBERGERGROSS, H. W. May 26,1960 [May 27,1959 (2)], No. 18693/60. Class 104 (2). A railway sleeper comprises an inverted trough shaped metal rail supporting part 1 beneath and between the flanges of which one or more moulded concrete or like weight slabs 2 are inserted. The slabs 2 are attached to the rail supporting part 1 by U bolts 3. The rails 5 are attached to the part 1 by T-headed bolts 7 and clamps 6. The heads of the bolts 7 are located in recesses 8 in the slabs 2 and drainage holes 9 are provided. An insulating layer 10 may be provided between the part 1 and the slab 2 and a similar insulating layer 11 may be wrapped around the base flange of the rail 5. The part 1 may be made in two parts joined together by a bolt 14 or, Fig. 5 (not shown), bolts and a fishplate. Locating stops 18 are provided on the two halves of part 1. The bolt 14 and the two parts of part 1 may be electrically insulated from one another.
