Abstract

706,587. Concrete railway sleepers. SCHULZ, E., and FINSTERWALDER, U. Dec. 10, 1951 [Dec. 11, 1950], No. 28830/51. Class 104 (2) A sleeper has a precast concrete central member 4 jointed to two rail-bearing members 1, 2 to form a rigid non-articulated unit and is pre-stressed by a steel rod 5 extending longitudinally through the members. The ends of the member 4 may be inserted into recesses in' members 1, 2 and then joined thereto by concrete or placed in moulds and the members 1, 2 cast thereon. The members 1, 2 may be reinforced with iron. The member 4 may have a circular, elliptic or polygonal shaped cross-section and the hole for the steel rod 5 may be lined with thin sheet metal. The recesses 13 may be filled with concrete after pre-stressing the sleeper.
