Abstract
1448624 Railway level crossings SZARKA ENTERPRISES INC 14 Feb 1974 [5 March 1973] 6743/74 Heading E1G A level crossing, for use with a pair of running rails 12, 14 supported by sleepers 16, comprises a slab 22 supported by pads 30 on the sleepers, the pads being of unset material which is initially deformable and which hardens on setting. Preferably the slab is connected to the rails 12, 14 by brackets 40. The slab 22 is of precast reinforced concrete with a pair of rails 46 at its edges held together by tie rods 48 within the slab. During assembly the slab 22 is temporarily supported by wooden shims 28 while the pads 30, comprising bags of mortar, set. The slab is connected to the rails 12, 14 by brackets 40 which are bolted to angle iron base plates 32 secured by brackets 34. End slabs 24 may be provided and are supported in the same way. The running rails may be insulated from the crossing by a sheet 54, Fig. 4, and the slabs may have a layer of a solid urethane elastomer bonded to the top surface, Fig. 7 (not shown). Similar slabs of differing plan may be used for switching sections or curved track.
