Abstract

1376944 Hot tops for ingot moulds RESIL PROCESSES Ltd 21 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 39237/71 Heading B3F Hot top slabs or sleeves 22 of compressible material are set in the heads of ingot moulds by tapping them to compress them slightly. So that the slabs or sleeves extend into the moulds a uniform distance, locating members 11-15 are provided, which members are made of steel wire #" in diameter. The members each have a portion 11 which engages a slab or sleeve base, or (not shown), a groove (30) adjacent the base of a slab or sleeve. A leg portion 12 supports the portion 11 and is linked to a further leg portion by a bridge portion 13 that extends across the top of a slab or sleeve. Before application of the location member to a slab or sleeve its leg portions 12, 14 are not parallel but incline towards one another. Thus when the location member is applied to a slab or sleeve, its leg portions 12, 14 are forced away from one another and grip upon the slab or sleeve. An outwardly pointing portion 15 extends from the legs portion 14 and, in use, abuts against the top of an ingot mould wall to locate the slab or sleeve at the correct height.
